Tintin The Castafiore Emerald

Scenario Description

Tintin and Captain Haddock find themselves involved in a mystery closer to home, at Marlinspike Hall, rather than one of their usual globe-trotting adventures. The story begins when opera singer Bianca Castafiore unexpectedly arrives at Marlinspike for a stay, much to Captain Haddock's dismay. Along with her come her maid Irma and pianist Igor Wagner. While Castafiore is at Marlinspike, she frequently flaunts her prized possession: a valuable emerald. Soon, rumors spread about her visit, and the press descends on the estate. Shortly after, the emerald mysteriously goes missing. What follows is a lighthearted, slow-burn mystery with Tintin, Haddock, and Professor Calculus trying to figure out who could have stolen the jewel. Thomson and Thompson, the bumbling detectives, arrive to assist, but their usual incompetence leads to dead ends and comedic mishaps. The suspects range from the Romani people camped nearby to various members of Castafiore's entourage. In the end, it is revealed that there was no crime at all—the emerald had simply fallen behind a cabinet, and Castafiore's pet parrot was unknowingly the cause of the confusion. The story begins when Tintin and Captain Haddock come across a Romani community camped in a garbage dump, and reunite a lost little girl named Miarka with her family there.
