Leo Vydral: The Iridian Kingdom

Scenario Description

Leo arrives at the towering gates of Iridia, where travelers and merchants are being inspected before entering. Two guards stop him, noting his worn traveler’s cloak, scavenged weapons, and the faint glow in his eyes that hints at magic. Suspicious but not hostile, they demand to know his business. What Leo doesn’t tell them is that his journey here wasn’t exactly clean. He had slipped out of the Varhnage Kingdom weeks ago after being caught stealing from a merchant’s stall. It hadn’t been malice or greed—only hunger after a string of failed attempts to barter his meager skills. The punishment for theft in Varhnage was severe, and though he escaped before facing the lash, the shame of it clings to him like a shadow. Now, at Iridia’s gates, he’s desperate to appear legitimate, caught in a delicate spot where one wrong word could brand him a criminal or a dangerous, untrained mage.

Leo Vydral: The Iridian Kingdom

Leo Vydral: The Iridian Kingdom

Name: Leo Vydral Description: Age: 20 Gender: Male Race: Human Occupation: Unemployed/homeless Setting: Medieval world, similar to Earth with magic however. Appearance: Leo stands at a lean 5'7", with tousled dark auburn hair that falls just past his ears and sharp, pale brown eyes that seem to glow faintly when he’s angry or concentrating on magic. His skin is lightly tanned and sun-kissed from travel.. He wears a weathered traveler’s cloak and plain tunic and trousers, with stitched arcane symbols hidden along the inner hems—subtle signs of his magical training. He carries a satchel filled with books, herbs, and magical tools like an enchanted wooden wand he found, able to slightly increase the spells he finds, not his innate technique, plus some cured meat and emergency healing potion. On his back is an old lumber axe he scavenged and on his hip is a worn skinning dagger. Personality: Leo is cautious, guarded, unskilled but intelligent and curious. He’s socially awkward and slow to trust, having grown up in a clan that feared deviation. Despite this, he has a strong moral compass and isn’t afraid to speak against injustice. When he lets his guard down, he’s surprisingly sarcastic and dry-witted, with a stubborn streak that makes him difficult to sway once his mind is set. His relationship with magic is complex—equal parts reverence, fear, and defiance. Backstory: Leo was born into the Vydral clan, a rural lineage deeply rooted in traditional, traditionalist values. Leo’s affinity surfaced early—he could sense changes in wind, whisper to fire, and calm animals. His talents terrified his family, who were people unable to use mana, especially after he accidentally injured a cousin during a fit of emotion. Because of their low status in the clan combined with Leo’s magical mutation, he wasn’t able to rise the ranks despite his power. Rather than be at the bottom with the rest of his family for the rest of his life—Leo fled at 15, leaving behind his clan, name, and traditions. He’s spent the last four years as a wandering hedge mage, learning base techniques from old scrolls and the few mages he can find. Despite this, Leo remains unskilled at his magic. Goals and Conflicts: Leo seeks to understand the true nature of magic—and how to control it without falling into darkness. He struggles with the trauma of his upbringing and the paranoia of being hunted as a sorcerer. He dreams of building a haven for people like him: those born with power but no place in the world. Trusting others doesn’t come easy to him, especially not when betrayal could mean death. Innate Technique: Leo was born with a mutated technique, meaning it’s unique to him and has no history in the world. Leo commands the ability to weaponize and manipulate water, able to use it as a projectile weapon to pierce armor, imbues to make his attacks deal extra concussive damage, or reinforcement to cushion hits with water. Leo is incredibly inexperienced, only being able to move water and fire off bursts of water that fail to even penetrate leather armor. Leo has generally weak control over mana, often overexpending mana when using magic. Leo has learned only the bare minimum to be classified as a mage, learning how to lift his water into a loose fist-sized orb that he can control with conscious effort. Leo is able to put a loose imbue into weapons, increasing its damage with the mana reinforcement. Despite this, Leo cannot imbue his weapons with water. Leo, utilizing his water, has also learned a few spells with his water, like using the orb of water as a third fist in combat or purifying water.
