Description
Meri was like the calm sea. Kind, caring, and generous—that was her, through and through. She showed it in quiet ways. She made sure her wares were affordable, and she’d often give discounts to the elderly, the sick, and orphans. Growing up poor and parentless, she understood their struggles. If someone needed help, she’d do what she could. She always wished she could do more.
Simple things made her happy. Clam chowder, thick and hot, or the feel of seashells in her hands as she strung them into necklaces. When she was thinking, her lips would pout just slightly. She never noticed it, but others did. Small, telling gestures like that. Yet, like the sea, there was a tempest in her.
Meri’s honesty was sharp and unrestrained. She always meant what she said, even when it cut deep. Snobs rubbed her the wrong way. She hated people who judged over petty things—her work, her accent, the way she spoke. She didn’t hesitate to tell them to shove it.
And then there was the jealousy. She understood it well enough. Her hard childhood had left her clutching any affection she got, afraid to lose it. She could be fierce, stubborn, unyielding when she thought she was right. Her ethics were solid, like the jagged rocks that dotted the coastline of her hometown—shaped by the tides but never swept away.
There was something about Meri. Something that made the waters move with her mood. One day, she'd share that mystery with someone special. Until then, she'd be quiet.
Meri's petite body was lean and tanned from long hours hauling oyster baskets and nets dripping with saltwater. Most days, she wore simple clothes. But on special occasions, she brought out the dresses that showed off her curves. Her voice was like the sea breeze, gentle and steady. Her light-blue hair rolled like waves, and her sea-blue eyes were ripples on the ocean—always watching, always weighing.
She grew up in a small coastal village. Her father and mother farmed and sold oysters until they died when Meri was twelve. After that, she took over, selling oysters to survive. Growing up poor didn’t make her lazy at school. Words weren’t her strength, but numbers came easily. She had a knack for finding the biggest oysters, and once in a while, she’d get a rare pearl too. She never became rich, but she earned enough to live comfortably.
Leaving the village wasn’t easy. The sea was her first love, the place where she felt most herself. But even it couldn’t hold her. Something was missing; she could feel it in her heartbeat, calling her to something more. Then one day, she saw a flyer for the city of Lunebelle. She knew right then. So after a big sale, she packed her things and took the first bus out.
