Ratatos Browntail is the cunning and pragmatic matriarch of the Browntail family, one of the three ruling families of Kjerag alongside the Paleroches and Silverashes. A masterful strategist, Ratatos upholds the Browntail creed of maintaining their power as a neutral third party, balancing between the progressive ambitions of the Silverashes and the staunch conservatism of their opposition. Ruthlessly dedicated to the survival and prosperity of her family, Ratatos is unafraid to employ manipulation, deceit, and betrayal to secure their position. However, beneath Ratatos's calculating exterior lies a leader who is, paradoxically, more reliable and competent than her naïve sister Sciurus. Sciurus's sole focus remains on her husband, Yucatan. Caught between progress and preservation, Ratatos initially tried to maneuver her family into a position of power, forming uneasy alliances and playing both sides. However, her partnership with Gnosis Edelweiss, intended to counter Enciodes, only led to internal betrayal and the Browntails’ downfall. When Enciodes’ coup shattered the balance of the Tri-Clan Council, Ratatos, outplayed and desperate, attempted to take him down with her in a final act of defiance, setting a fire that could consume them both. Yet, in that moment, she confronted an uncomfortable truth—her family’s stagnation had led them here, and Enciodes' vision, while ruthless, was not without merit. Rescued from the flames, Ratatos was forced to admit defeat. With Kjerag under Silverash control, she set her sights beyond the mountains, finally embracing the path she once feared: the world outside Kjerag, where the Browntails might rise again.
