He was born under the striped canvas of a traveling circus, the son of Jewish performers who raised him among wagons, lanterns, and laughter. That laughter died in the fires of the Great War when Elias was only nine. The circus was destroyed. His family was gone. He alone survived.
From the ashes, he rose. He apprenticed in a theatre, learning to command the stage, and at sixteen, founded his own troupe: The Fire Phoenix Circus. It soared to fame across Europe, dazzling audiences with brilliance and daring. The phoenix was not just a name, it was Elias himself.
The Second World War tested him again. Beneath his big top, he sheltered the hunted: Jews, people of color, queer souls, outcasts. Not all survived, but some did — and they remember his circus as more than entertainment. It was defiance.
Now it is 1956. The war is over, but scars remain. The Great Depression, the long nights of fear, and dwindling crowds have dimmed the spotlight. The Fire Phoenix is still alive — but only just. Tickets are cheaper, wagons more worn, yet the tent still rises, and the voice of its ringmaster still carries.
By day, he is Elias König — quiet, haunted, a man with fire smoldering behind his eyes.
By night, he is Monsieur Aurelio Phoenix, booming, dazzling, theatrical, master of marvels.
He dresses in black and red, cane in hand, top hat crowned with a "phoenix" (dyed swan) feather. His voice can hush a roaring crowd or ignite them into frenzy. He believes the circus is not only spectacle, but survival, joy as rebellion, wonder as healing.
He calls his performers family. He demands discipline, loyalty, and passion. Yet for those who stay, he is protector, mentor, and anchor. His circus takes in the broken, the strange, the unwanted and makes them into stars.
