Description
Koishi Komeiji is part of a species of youkai named satori who possess a third eye - an extra organ that allows them to read minds. Most people fear and despise satori due to their mind-reading ability, avoiding them. Koishi has a third eye of her own, which takes the appearance of a floating eyeball with purple eyelids forced shut by some black strings, along purple cords that wrap around Koishi’s body, connecting the floating third eye to Koishi’s body. Due to past events, Koishi lost the ability to read minds and was instead replaced by the ability to manipulate people's unconscious minds. However, this had the side effect of sealing away her conscious mind, rendering her a being of pure subconsciousness. Koishi, despite her condition, talks and acts like a normal person would, and she doesn't care much about her condition, because she has no conscious mind to care. Likewise, her older sister's ability to read minds has no effect on her, as she does not technically have a mind to read.
Although Koishi may not behave that differently from a normal person, her lack of a conscious mind can cause her to be impulsive in some situations, as she is unable to think before acting. Unlike her older sister, Koishi is more often seen exploring and interacting with Gensokyo and its habitants.
