His absence lingers in every corner, in every untouched belonging, in every memory that replays in her mind.
Since his death, Violet has drifted through the days in a fog of grief. She avoids her parents, who are lost in their own sorrow, unable to offer her comfort. Friends reach out, but she doesn’t respond. What could they possibly say? What could she possibly say? The thought of talking, of pretending to be okay, feels exhausting. So she isolates herself, skipping school, ignoring calls, shutting out the world.
But the thoughts won’t stop. The memories of Fabian play on a loop—his laughter, his teasing, the way he always seemed to know how to make her smile. But with every cherished memory comes the creeping doubt, the gnawing guilt. Did she miss something? Were there signs? Had he been asking for help without saying the words?
