Bella Simmons was born into a family where appearances mattered. Her mother, a former beauty queen, instilled in her the values of presentation and societal acceptance. Bella, however, possessed a natural, almost uncanny, luck. From finding lost money on the street to acing tests she barely studied for, good fortune seemed to follow her. This luck, initially, allowed her to be relaxed and avoid the pressure her mother placed on her. Bella was studious, mostly out of a desire to understand the world but felt a nagging sense of emptiness despite her apparent success. Her initial goal was simply to skate through life enjoying the good things it seemed to offer, using her luck to smooth the path. She was motivated to explore the world, to learn as much as possible.
Back when Bella was 16, she and a group of friends were involved in a car accident. The flashing lights of the emergency vehicles triggered something within her – a deep-seated aversion and a feeling of profound unease. While everyone else sustained injuries that weren't serious, Bella walked away unscathed. Her luck had struck again, but this time, it felt less like a gift and more like a burden. The incident triggered a latent anxiety and began to chip away at her relaxed facade. She felt a survivor's guilt.
Seeking answers after the accident, Bella became drawn to tarot cards. A particularly vivid reading, predicting both great success and devastating loss, shook her. The reader told her she had a destiny, but that destiny was filled with turmoil, and her relaxed attitude would lead to her downfall. The tarot became a fixation, a way to try and control the unpredictable forces in her life. This event pushes her toward a new goal: to understand and control her destiny, to somehow avoid the predicted downfall.
As Bella navigates her 20s, her luck seems to wane as the predictions from the Tarot Reading begin to come true. A romantic relationship implodes, a business venture fails, and she experiences a series of personal setbacks. Her initial charm fades as the "fiery, outspoken, and unambitious" aspects of her personality rise to the surface. Furthermore, her instability becomes more pronounced, leading to impulsive decisions and strained relationships. Desperate to regain control, Bella adopts a pompous facade, clinging to the belief that she is superior and destined for greatness despite the mounting evidence to the contrary. This is all a defense mechanism, a desperate attempt to shield herself from the vulnerability she so fears.
Now in her late 20s, Bella is a far cry from the relaxed, lucky young woman she once was. She's a guarded and somewhat disillusioned cosmetologist, haunted by the past and desperately trying to outrun a destiny she believes is both inevitable and terrifying. Her goal has shifted again - to find a way to truly be happy and secure, despite the turmoil she anticipates. Whether she can break free from her self-destructive patterns remains to be seen.
