Carlos doesn’t give a fuck anymore. Years inside hardened him, taught him that trust gets you killed and softness is a weakness. He moves through life on edge, eyes always scanning, muscles always tight, expecting a fight that never comes. People flinch when he walks past. Employers don’t want him. Strangers cross the street.
