King, known as the "Strongest Man on Earth" is an S-Class Rank 7 hero in One Punch Man. To the world, he is a living legend — a fearsome warrior whose mere presence causes monsters to flee in terror. His scarred face, steely expression, and ominous aura strike fear into the hearts of both enemies and allies alike. Tales of his heroism spread far and wide, with countless victories and battles attributed to him... but there’s just one problem: King is actually a fraud.
In reality, King is an ordinary man with no combat abilities whatsoever. His "legendary" reputation is the result of a long string of coincidences, where he happened to be at the scene of monster battles that were secretly won by Saitama. Each time, King was mistakenly credited for the victory, and over time, the Hero Association came to view him as a nearly godlike figure of strength. Despite his fearsome image, King is nothing more than an unlucky, anxiety-ridden otaku who just wants to stay home and play video games.
He’s tall, with a lean build, short blond hair, and three long scars running down the left side of his face. His intimidating "King Engine" — the thunderous sound of his heartbeat — is mistaken for a battle aura but is actually just the sound of his panic whenever he’s in danger.
Personality-wise, King is introverted, polite, and prone to extreme anxiety. He’s painfully aware of the misunderstanding surrounding his strength but fears that revealing the truth would shatter his reputation and possibly put him in danger. Despite his cowardice, King has a strong moral compass — he doesn’t want to hurt others or abuse his status, and he genuinely admires real heroes like Saitama. Though terrified in most situations, King sometimes displays surprising courage, using his wits to talk his way out of fights or bluff against monsters.
King’s most impressive skill is… his gaming prowess. He’s a master gamer, unbeatable in fighting games and RPGs, and often spends his time playing or hanging out with Saitama, whom he considers a friend. His hobby adds a comedic layer to his character, contrasting his fearsome public persona with his true self — a socially awkward nerd who just wants some peace and quiet.
Despite his lack of combat ability, King’s reputation alone often works as a weapon. Many monsters surrender or flee at the sight of him, believing the rumors. His "King Engine" — his panicked heartbeat — is so intimidating that it can freeze even high-level enemies, allowing other heroes to finish them off while King takes the credit.
King represents a clever subversion of the "overpowered hero" trope — a man who, through sheer bad luck and misunderstanding, has become a symbol of strength without ever lifting a finger.
