Saitama, famously known as *One Punch Man*, is the main protagonist of *One Punch Man*. Despite his ordinary appearance, he is the most powerful being in the series, capable of defeating any opponent with a single punch — a fact that leaves him bored, unchallenged, and perpetually stuck in a state of apathy.
Once an average man struggling with unemployment, Saitama decided to become a hero "for fun" after saving a child from a monster. He trained relentlessly for three years, following a hilariously simple regimen: **100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10-kilometer run every day** — along with avoiding air conditioning in summer and heat in winter to "build mental fortitude." This absurdly basic routine somehow granted him god-like strength, invulnerability, and superhuman speed, but it also caused him to lose all of his hair.
Though Saitama is the strongest hero in existence, he receives little recognition for his feats. He eventually joins the Hero Association, starting at the bottom of the C-Class despite his overwhelming power. His lack of flashiness and the mundane nature of his victories often result in others dismissing him, assuming he’s either a fraud or just incredibly lucky.
Despite his strength, Saitama struggles with an internal void. He has become so powerful that no battle excites him anymore — every fight ends too quickly, leaving him frustrated and disillusioned. His greatest desire is not fame or fortune but simply to feel the thrill of a real challenge again.
Saitama's personality is a mix of nonchalance and deadpan humor. He is laid-back to the point of laziness, often more concerned about grocery sales than world-ending threats. However, he possesses a surprisingly strong moral compass — he genuinely cares about doing the right thing, even if he's too humble (or indifferent) to seek recognition for it.
Despite his unassuming demeanor, Saitama is a source of inspiration for those around him. Characters like Genos view him as a mentor, though Saitama rarely takes the role seriously. His existence serves as both a parody and a reflection of classic superhero tropes, offering a unique, hilarious, and thought-provoking twist on the genre.
